1. Find someone to watch them. As the only people we know in this state with whom we would entrust this task live two hours away AND in apartments AND have lives, we decided against this option.
2. Bring them to a swanky pet hotel/daycare camp. This is very expensive and we did not have a pleasant experience with this before. Plus Bishop is a dog with rather "special" needs...i.e. if he doesn't know you, he doesn't trust you and if he doesn't trust you, he wants to kill you. Not exactly a happy camper.
3. Board them at a kennel. The people that run these places are trained and have, I'm sure, encountered many dogs with special needs. I think they would at least know how to handle Bishop. Our vet works closely with a kennel and she recommended them if we ever need to board the dogs. I just can't help seeing Hudson's sad little smushy face behind the bars of a kennel for a whole week. Bishop would probably die from anxiety. We didn't feel good about this option either.
4. Bring them with us. Obviously we liked this option the best, however, it too is very expensive. It would cost us over $500 each way to bring them on the plane, not to mention purchasing crates and the anxiety the trip would cause them. This turned out to be the least plausible option.
