I hate Arizona!
Okay...let's talk cravings. Since Monday night I've a bad hankering for gummy bears. You know, bulk candy, $1.89 a pound at Meijers. So we go to our local Fry's Marketplace, and it turns out they don't have bulk candy. I do some calling around to other grocery stores...NO ONE has bulk candy! Okay, last resort...there are these stores called Fuzziwig's in the malls out here. I go in today, find the gummy bears, and scoop some out. I had a pound and a quarter. Do you know what it cost me? Do you? When the cashier said $13.29 I thought he was joking. NO! It costs $9.99 a pound or $2.99 for a quarter pound! I had already scooped them out, and my craving was not going away...so I paid. I can't believe it, I could have gotten 7 pounds at Meijers for what I paid, and they're not even the right kind! I could buy these at any grocery store, pre-packaged. What a stupid city.

I remember being mad when Meijer started charging $1.50 per lb, up from $1.00 back in college. I'm assuming you're talking about the gummy bears coated in sugar, because those are tough to find. If you want the plain ones, it seems like any gas station, Walgreens, etc would have them: Gummy Bears link.
What I'm looking for is hard to describe. Not sugar coated, but not as chewy as the ones you can find at Walgreen's or gas stations. Also they're a sort of dull luster and the green ones are not lime, but some kind of sweet melon flavor. Exactly the type you find in the Meijer's bulk candy.
ok, i don't really want to reign on your pissing parade, because it looks like a lot of fun and primarily due to baby hormones, but seriously you sound insane. first off, everything in the mall is ridiculously overpriced, how could you not know that? second, i'm not an economist or anything, but i'm pretty sure those gummy bears at meijer have gone up in price since last you consumed them. probably not to $9.99 a pound, but meijer is not immune to inflation.
while i will agree with you that phoenix is a stupid city, i'm not sure why you think it's because you can't find your perfect little fairy tale gummy bears for $1.89/pound. you do know that they don't have meijers in colorado, right?
I think the major complaint is that it was so hard to find bulk food. The secondary complaint is the $9.99/pound. Back in GR it seemed like you could buy bulk candy from anywhere, where as here it was quite an ordeal to find. Could someone in MI go to Meijers and find out how much bulk gummy bears are going for these days?
I don't think it's that insane...haven't you ever wanted something very specific? I've always had a love for Meijer's bulk candy gummy bears. Maybe I'm feeling nostalgic. Maybe I just returned from Michigan and am missing it a little. Maybe I've had one hell of a tough school year and I feel like I deserve some friggin' fairy tale gummy bears. So you can "reign" on my parade all you want...I'll just get my umbrella.
don't get your umbrella, because neil's child isn't here.
someone in michigan, please go find the price of gummy bears at meijer. buy them, then send them through the mail to miss pregnant pants. it will probably come out to $9.99/pound but at least they will be the "right" gummy bears.
i will laugh if meijer got rid of their bulk food department because their last vigilant gummy bear customer left the state.
p.s. sunflower market has bulk food. possibly trader joe's. but those will never replace meijer, so don't even bother.
p.p.s. the idea of "bulk food" has been replaced by a little thing called costco.
I'm with ya. Meijer bulk gummies are the best and you can't get them that cheap anywhere else. When I worked there in high school, I used to buy five pounds of gummies for five bucks. It was glorious....and very sickening after a while.
Those bulk candy stores in the mall are ridiculously overpriced. They always have been. Never go there. EVER!
I hear you loud and clear! Mall candy is a joke! BUT! There is always a silver lining....... check out my featured blog!
Gummies from Meijer are the best gummies ever made, whether you go for the typical gummy bears, worms, sharks, raspberries, or the sour varieties. My family back in Michigan sends me gummies in the mail because no other gummies compare. Price: $1.49 to $1.99 everyday.
This is a really old post, but I'm 8 months pregnant and looking for these gummy bears. I talked to my mom, and Meijer doesn't have bulk candy anymore!!! I'm in Vegas, and I need to know that you found these somewhere. Please tell me you found some that are exactly the same, even if they are $9.99/lb.
Just a follow up to what Cassie said. Meijer indeed doesn't have bulk candy anymore and they changed their gummy bears about 2 or 3 years back now and now they are terrible. They are too hard and leave a terrible cheap gummy bear after taste in your mouth. Worst thing Meijer has ever done.
I'm afraid the Bulk meijers gummy bears are gone forever. I would think that someone from Meijers would know where they were purchased so we could order some.I keep trying but can't find any anywhere that have that taste.
