The Vegas trip was everything I expected and more. I expected to be exhausted on Sunday night, but not so much that I couldn't walk. I expected it to be crazy, but not in-your-face-insane. I expected lots of tall and ornate buildings, but was still overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. I expected to see lots of bright lights, but not so many that I practically seized from the shock. I hoped to see a celebrity and, at the peak of exhaustion, I did and was completely recharged to continue our journey.
We arrived Friday night and reunited with goat boy and cat lady. A quick and impromptu game of billiards was played before we headed out to the strip. Kato and I, both Vegas virgins, rode with our significant others in the Scion xB. It's probably a good thing we were quarantined away from the others because there were many idiotic exclamations made by yours truly, and several by Kato. It was all very exciting. We went to Slots A Fun and I gambled a grand total of $1 on a penny slot, got my free beer and then quit. Yeah, I'm not much of gambler. Plus, having awoken at 5:30, worked all day, and made the 5 hour trip, I was a little tired. We went back to the very nice rental house and crashed hard.
Saturday morning we went to a "surprise" champagne brunch and ate our fill. My goal for the day was to see as much as I possibly could of this unique wonderland. Read this post for a breakdown in more detail of what actually happened. I'm impressed that he remembered so well. To me, it was a blur but we saw lots of stuff! The bits I remember are giant M&Ms, Eiffel Tower, Can-can girl, indoor Venetian canals, indoor rainstorm, 3 brides in wedding gowns, Elvis on a cell phone, the front bumper of a taxi narrowly missing my knee, playful lions, live poker, booby postcards, delicious King of Clubs sandwich, longest taxi line ever, Jay Leno, Treasure Island ships, really drunk people, awesome dinner show, more really drunk people, locker #64, and indescribable soreness.
Sunday morning we reluctantly got up and slowly made our way to IHOP. Being Mother's Day there was quite a wait and this particular IHOP seemed very unprepared to handle such a rush of customers. After a slightly tense breakfast, we made the boys take a picture together, said our goodbyes, and were dropped at the airport car rental. Our "Kia Rio or similar" was actually a Cadillac...but we didn't complain. Stemshul, Ugly and I drove the 5 hours home in style and near silence. It was an excellent trip, but I'm so glad this weekend will pale in comparison. Next time we do Vegas, I think we'll need a day to prepare ourselves and a day to recuperate in addition to any time spent in Sin City.
