Odds and ends

I can't believe I'm already three weeks into the new school year. Time goes so fast, and I've been exhausted. I have a wonderful three day weekend ahead of me and I couldn't be happier about it! My wonderful husband did all the cleaning, including the bathroom and vacuuming, on Friday so I can just relax on my three days...he's so awesome!

My class this year is better, except they're a bunch of cry babies. I have kids crying everyday over one thing or another. Granted I scream at them and slap them all the time, but come on! (That was sarcasm if you need a clue). I don't know, maybe we're expecting too much from them these days. Maybe they have horrible lives at home and coming to school is just too much to take. Maybe they should all just get jobs and not worry about all this fancy shmancy education.

Oh, and here's a little tip for all you parents out there: please don't send your children to school with loose pants or extremely short shorts on. We sit on the floor, they get bored sometimes, and apparently boredom calls for the exploration of private parts! I don't want to see anymore wee wees or bajingos so please, dress your 6 year olds appropriately!

Monsoon season continues here in Arizona, and this year is much wetter than last. We had the worst storm in 12 years here in the valley on Thursday night. We lost power and everything. On Cactus, the street we live on, a series of power poles were knocked over by 85 mph winds. Luckily our power came back on in the night, but other people were still without it last night. It's been very humid too, which is making school miserable. My AC is out in my classroom and it sort of feels like a rainforest. The storms are causing problems for some people in the area, but for us they're fun to watch. A small payoff for the heat.

endings and beginnings

Although the temperature continues to reach well over 100 degrees every day, my summer has come and gone. It was very short this year partly due to the fact that I taught summer school for a month. I, however, do feel rejuvenated and am ready to go back full tilt tomorrow. Having had a year like the last one was sort of freeing in a way. I kind of feel like whatever I face tomorrow, and in the weeks and months to follow, can't possibly be as bad as what I dealt with last year.

In addition to this, I have something new and wonderful to occupy my thoughts and "free" time this year! This Tuesday I'll be 32 weeks along and I cannot believe how fast it's gone. It has been wonderful being pregnant, I'm so lucky I didn't have any complications. We attended a childbirth crash course yesterday and toured the hospital. We learned a few new things and received a lot of good information. We have the nursery completed (mostly) and even have child care set up for when I return to work in December. Yet there is so much I feel we cannot plan for. But that's okay, we'll learn and we are so excited! So, here we go for another school year and so much more!
